Parkinson’s disease is increasingly being viewed as a whole-body condition shaped by lifestyle, biology, and the gut–brain connection. Researchers are exploring whether the disease may begin in the digestive system in some people, where changes in the gut microbiome and early symptoms such as constipation appear years before diagnosis. At the same time, growing evidence suggests that lifestyle factors—including diet, exercise, and holistic health approaches—can help support brain and body function in people living with the disease. Plant-rich eating patterns, such as the KetoFlex or Mediterranean-style diet, focus on whole foods, healthy fats, and reducing processed foods to support metabolic and gut health. Combined with regular exercise programs that improve balance, strength, and coordination, these approaches highlight how nutrition, movement, and gut health may play an important role in managing Parkinson’s and improving quality of life.
